Waiting...Waiting...Waiting...

Can you believe that we wait for God? We (of course I do) say things like "Oh we're waiting for God." For God to what? To do something big and huge? To cure AIDS and save the Burmese people from enslavement and torture? Maybe his plan isn't big, but is just a simple plan. To change a person's attitude. And here's a thought. Lets say we're waiting for God to show us his plan. Lets look at this from an example: The plan is a map. God is holding the map. We're following him (or trying to). Why do we need to look at the map? Why do we need to know the plan? We're following God, so why do we need to know? God is the ultimate map reader and planner. He knows where we're going, so why don't people just follow?
Why do we feel the need to see the map?

Oh Kaleb, that is a tough question. I am happy to follow, but I like to have the map to reassure me. I will be thinking about this one for a while.

I"m with pondering something - maps give reassurance and I don't travel far without one. But applying that to my spiritual life, we need to 'walk by faith and not by sight' since sometimes our eyes deceive us and we incorrectly interpret directions. Also James says not to plan too far in advance anyway because we don't know what will happen tomorrow anyway. Actually I think this is all best summed up by the Scripture verse "your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path"....lamps only provide a few feet worth of light down the path we are walking so I guess that is all we need to see and know ahead of time. The rest we leave to God and let him reveal to us as we get to that place on the path of our lives. The question I have is how do we keep moving forward towards God when we are 'waiting' for His will?

First, let me say, I love how your mind works and the stuff you're wrestling with!
Sometimes I think that waiting on God to show us "the map" for our lives is what creates godly character in us. It helps us to learn things like patience, endurance and other qualities we might not learn any other way than waiting for God to reveal the map for us. It's hard for me to remember that my character is more important than knowing the map and going where it tells me. See 2 Peter 1

Good points - I am all about the following aspect of this whole God thing also!

I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year "Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown" and he replied "Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the hand of God and it shall be lighter than day and safer than the known way"....my mother, your Great Gran's very favorite passage.....Love Granny

I think I'v learned: It is better to look at the path and say "God lead me" than to say "I know what I'm doing God, let me lead."
Now the easier one is the second one, bet the better choice is to follow God.
