Miracles...

What is a miracle? I believe the definition is an event orchestrated by God to bring people into the light of Him. But what is a miracle? Does it have to something grand like: walking on water?
Or something that happens daily like: child birth? Are they both respectivly a miracle...and following that are some miracles better or more important than others?
Food for thought...

Not that it would be easy for you to get but I would suggest getting a copy of the video "How Great is our God" by Louie Giglio. In it he talks about just how GREAT God is...www.268generation.com or www.268store.com for a direct link. Anyway my feelings on miracles is this...everything is a miracle, life, breath, day, night...etc. the Pharisee’s (I'm not calling you one:)) looked for signs and miracles and missed the miracle of everyday! Blessings to you my friend,
your alaskan cousin

Such interesting questions you pose...hmmmm....I'm with cousin Chris that we should look at everyday stuff as miracles because we should always be in awe of the fact that God loves us and provides for us in every way imaginable. Our jaw should drop in the stunned realization that Jesus left the splendour and beauty of heaven to travel all this way to be among us, one of us in a skin and bones bag. Remembering that makes me look at every day events and situations with a humble recognition that God didn't have to bother with us at all but He does anyway!!! The fact that God allows the earth to revolve around the sun at just the exact right degree, the fact that I can breathe and laugh and eat....all of that is a miracle to me. And the big stuff like the parting of the Red Sea? Icing on the cake, baby!

What ya' know?
I've been pondering this very question for a possible sermon series. Someone asked me why we don't see many (or any) great miracles. My first thought is that a miracle is something God does outside of the normal laws of creation He has set. Such as walking on water or stopping a storm or calling Lazarus out of the grave. When you think about it, that one really messes with your head. Not only does God do miracles to show us the light, sometimes that light reveals the truth of our heart. The Pharisees, for the most part (Nicodemus was amung the notable exceptions) were driven by the miracles to kill Jesus.
I think that working definition of mircles above is too limited when I think of the miracle of a baby (healthy or not) of a Saskatchewan sunset (or for the morning person that I am, a sunrise!) or the miracle of person opening like a flower before the love of God and embracing a faith journey with God.
So, you asked, what is a miracle?
Maybe it is whatever happens that does draw my attention to God's grace and peace that is at work in my life.

The question of the import of miracles is also a cause to ponder. I don't have a suggestion for a heirarchy of the miraculous, but I wonder...

Here's my question...
What is implied by any lack of miracles in one's life? Does it reflect God's displeasure, or unconcern, or discipline, or lack of faith or ...

Could it be that God doesn't do miricles in one's life because He trusts that we don't need them or that they won't help us in our walk? Maybe not a lack of faith but God's faith in us that we are doing well that we need to keep trucking where we are?

I was reading today some quotes from St. Augustine, he said, "Miracles are not contrary to nature but only contrary to what we know about nature." I thought of you as I read this...something to think about. Happy Birthday...a bit late:)
